Thanks for the build thread Cletus, we're sure being spoiled with all the build threads, having a bit of a slum myself, 84 F is just a little to warm for me to be building.

Yes.. I am in PA and it has been a bit too muggy for my taste. My layout is in the basement and it is a little cooler but not exactly as cool as I like. I typically an at a lull during the warmer months too. But we'll continue with this at least and then take a break.

Welcome from a fellow Pennsylvanianite.

I'll be following along as well. Vectorcut Dave makes some great stuff.

I'm back..... "Bob's your uncle!"
The next day after applying the CA, I glued the top brace support in place again using white glue. I test fitted this brace before applying the glue. Once it was in place I used masking tape again and left it set for several hours before returning.

I did not have to sand any of the joints so far. Everything was precise and fit snuggly without cleaning up. This laser cutting is phenomenal and exact. I would have expected a minor amount of cleaning or sanding somewhere. There may be some, but so far it has been perfect! The boards are fragile, or at least appear so with some really small, thin pieces, but again I have been very careful in handling. Perhaps because I don’t feel the need to rush. It is a really well done kit. Kudos!

Once the white glue set up, I again added ZAP-A-GAP at the seams to soak in and seal the deal! It feels much more solid and rigid when handling now.

Step 4 was to glue the bay window together. It consists of 3 main walls. I cut them out and test fitted before using the same process of Aleene’s white glue— this time Fast Grab as the walls in my hands were tiny to handle. Still no sanding for the fit required. I left this set overnight again once I had it squared up, and added CA the next morning.

Step 5 calls for the roof to be glued together. I cut out the sections and again test fitted. No sanding or adjustment required.
There were still a few of the circle fillings left in the holes, and I punched them out. I’ll hold onto to these as they are fairly close to some type of HO scale utility wheels I feel. I’ll find a use for them. Little added perk!!! I have decided to use Weldbond glue for the roof as I think it is a little stronger glue for this purpose. The instructions make regular recommendations for glues as you go. One of them is CA and the other is white glue. I have simply modified the types of white glue along the way. Personal preference I suppose.

Hmmm.... can you only post 4 pictures at a time?

anyway... I cut out the hidden roof braces as instructed from the darker brown laser board. Since the brown laser board is thinner than the roof slots for them, I decided to add some strip wood to either side to prevent then moving while the white glue dried. The strip wood was placed on either side, and into the white glue adding the desired stability to the braces. I left the braces on one roof panel dry for about an hour before repeating the steps on the other roof panel. I also ran a bead of the white glue along the roof ridge forming the proper roof angle.

Once the other roof panel sat for about an hour, I ran another very thin bead of glue on the underside of the roof ridge and left it set for another hour. Once this was dried, it was very stable.

Step 6 calls for painting of the structure and moldings. I decided to give everything a light coat of Floquil Earth as a base coat. This deviates from the suggested painting directions. However, I wanted to bring everything into a more color-coordinated appearance for the base coat since there are various colors of materials used. I applied the Floquil Earth to the building walls and then used a wire brush while still wet to lightly texture this first coat of paint. I then painted the rest of the card stock pieces, such as window and doorframes etc.

I will let this cure over night, and then use a 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it slightly at the joints and any raised areas. Allowing the corner trim strip wood and frames to lay smoothing in place when attached.

Hopefully more tomorrow...... or next day. Take care everyone.

You can post more photos at a time if instead of uploading them you link them using the Img button. Either way thanks for posting pics , I think we love pics , have to ask Jaime , but I think we do :D

Yes, we do love pictures :D

The forum software limits the number of uploaded images to 4 and the number of URL links to 3 per post.

Yo can post more than 4 photos per post if you link to your image files hosted elsewhere by using the [ img ] [ /img ] tag as Janbouli referenced.

I'm eager to see the end result of this build. I have a laser board kit from Vector Cut that I've yet to build and am paying close attention. I am not crazy about using CA glue but it seems it is the way to go with these kits.

Cletus, you're doing an excellent build thread! Everything looks great! :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :-bd :-bd

Sorry for interrupting to add a little humor, but since Jaime mentioned 'not being crazy about CA', I thought I'd show
you why:

Hope you take this in good spirit and don't let it interrupt your build thread! :D :D :D

So far I've use it per instructions, which is to say, after using white glue to hold everything initially. Once that is done, applying the CA is done on the "inside" and I apply it with a toothpick which gives much control. I'd be hesitant to use it as the primary glue on the corners for example where it would be critical to be precise on the first go. I agree that would not be my cup-o-tea.

Now if you did what Dave suggests in the picture... well that is your own fault. Ya shouldn't pick your nose while modeling! It is in the fine print of virtually all instructions supplied with kits and on all bottles of CA!! Go now and read the fine print especially on the CA bottles and you'll see it!

Cletus,

I am curious what that red board is. Is it wood or is it some kind of laserboard?
