Carrick's corner build

The storefront bits are going together, but not without some problems.

The door is attached at a 45 deg angle, one advantage to working on glass over the grid mat. :) The narrow left edge piece wasn't straight, kinda warped, so I removed it, it broke, but went back together okay and now looks better. The inside of the upper pieces may be visible from certain angles and I thought the black too stark, so I painted them boxcar red like the trim. Placing the other side on this revealed more problems.

The four top pieces aren't exactly all the same height, so these will be filed/sanded to fit. The cardboard landing isn't close to fitting correctly. The angled piece isn't 45 deg. The thing is too wide, I think Dario included the width of the walls when he made the measurements. Some trimming/fitting will be involved. The door isn't right either, the top piece is too wide, note the door edges.

There are signs to be added to the top pieces, the instructions note to do this when it's all together, but I thought it too fragile for this, so I'll add them next.

Tops evened up. The middle sign (a clock goes there) was 3mm too wide, so it was fixed. The drybrushing looks better in person, seems too stark in the photo.

Colors look great Jeff.

I think the dry brushing looks great. All the extra effort you are going to to make sure things fit right will make a big difference in the end.

Cheers, Mark.

Hi Jeff:

The entrence looks great. I like the colors and signage. I know what you mean when you say the dry-brushing looks better in person. It always shows up dark in photos.

Thanks Mark, Karl and Jan. Had family stuff to do the last two plus weeks, but it's time to get back to this. I cut a new landing using the incorrect one as a template. Some trimming from the ends and the inside 90 deg corner and making the outside angle a true 45 deg and it fit fine. A&I to some wood, glued in place and trimmed.

The storefront is not yet glued in place. The boards are supposed to over hang the end like this. The stairs are not as wide as the side piece, so this will involve further trimming. Note in the instructions, you just leave the boards hanging out and fit the trim above it which looks terrible in the picture in the instructions, I'll trim the boards back enough to cover this completely with trim. Here's a view from the ground.

A master of interiors (like Candy) would cut the extra wood out and build a cool interior. The instructions say to just paint it black (like I wouldn't mess up the rest of the building doing that :) ). I'll just cover it with black paper. Time to put the windows in...

Jeff,

I have been watching this challenging but wonderful build over the past few months and I have to comend you on your
different fixes to those chalenges. I have always admired this building from 'RSM' and would have liked to purchased it but
finances dictated otherwise. This build/structure is turning out to be quite nice and after following this
build, I have been able to pick up on quite a few different teciniques from you and other forum members [i.e. karl] for my future
projects. I really like the billboards and signs. Thanks for taking the time to document this build and keep up the great work.
Looking GREAT!!!!!
