Re: Stone Roundhouse Build for the S&S Railroad

John, I always like to see what solutions other modelers find for potential hurdles to their structure builds. This one looked like a keeper to me. Attached is a photo of an "in progress" O-Scale structure build in which I used a modified Campbell Hinge. Perhaps acceptable for O-Scale, but...

Resized Hinges 2 IMG_1997.jpg John, Try this link for a model builder's solution to scratch-built hinges: http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=37681&whichpage=5 I tried using some Campbell Scale hinges for an O-Scale structure I am building. I'll attach a photo of the materials...

Re: Porcupine Valley Mercantile by Stoney Creek

Greg, I think Tom is correct to recommend using a piece of brass tube for the vent stack. The brass tube walls will be thinner than the walls of styrene tubing and thus probably more in scale that way. I have used a piece of styrene tubing on one of my builds but think I might swap it out with a pie...

Re: Porcupine Valley Mercantile by Stoney Creek

Greg,

Nice detail touch with the flashing for the stack that will come through the shakes.

Re: Porcupine Valley Mercantile by Stoney Creek

Greg, Thanks for the additional information regarding the correct application of wood shakes in a roof valley. The drawings helped quite a bit as I am a very visual learner. Now all we need to do is convince more modelers to put "crickets" behind their chimneys for proper roof drainage. Wh...

Re: Porcupine Valley Mercantile by Stoney Creek

Greg, Nice clear tutorial for applying wood shake shingle roofs with excellent photos to illustrate the process. I look forward to seeing your next installment of the tutorial about applying the ridge shakes. Do you plan on adding a section about how to do wood shakes in a valley? Later, Dave S Tucs...

Re: FT. EDWARDS STATION

Frank,

I like the cab and city bus out front of the station. The overall station diorama as you are developing it is very well done. The station is still the star performer!

Re: FT. EDWARDS STATION

Frank, Pretty brave solution to a problem that had the potential of ruining the whole station scratchbuild. I don't know that I would have tried that! Have you come to any conclusions on what you will do to prevent that from ocurring on the next two station builds? Later, Dave S. Tucson, AZ

Re: Stone Roundhouse Build for the S&S Railroad

John, Just time to use up any un-reimbursed sick days! I feel one of them coming on - Isn't Roundhouse day in February? While still gainfully employed we called those days "mental health days." Certainly model railroading is a hobby that helps one keep their sanity so working on the comple...

Re: FT. EDWARDS STATION

Frank,

Looking good. That platform/porch cover will really make the station seem more complete.
